Legal

API Terms.

Tiers, pricing, quotas, and the rules of the road for building on the ATCSTW Data API. Binding on every key — free or paid.

The short version. The Free tier is $0 with 1,000 calls/month and attribution required. Paid packs run $69–$349/mo; Enterprise is $1,499/mo. Hit your quota and you get HTTP 402. No reselling the data as a competing API. No FCRA uses. No re-identifying anonymized donors. As-is on every tier except Enterprise. Abuse gets keys revoked.

The deal

These API Terms govern your use of the ATCSTW Data API (the "API"), operated by ATCSTW. By creating a key or calling the API, you accept them. The data served is derived from public records; it remains the property of its issuing agencies. What ATCSTW licenses is access to the resolved, connected, maintained graph built from those records — see the Licensing summary.

Tiers and quotas

Tier limits are those published on the pricing page at the time of your subscription. Calls beyond quota return HTTP 402 with the quota state in the response body. Quotas reset on the cycle stated in your account. ATCSTW may change tier limits prospectively; changes are published on the pricing page before they take effect and subscribers are notified before their next renewal.

Attribution

Publication of figures obtained from the API requires attribution: the source agency, "via ATCSTW," and the retrieval date — the same fields the response's provenance stamp carries. Attribution is a condition of every tier and the entire price of the Free tier.

Prohibited uses

You may not: (1) resell, re-serve, or bulk-share API data or responses as a competing data product, except as scoped in writing under an Enterprise agreement; (2) use the data for FCRA-regulated purposes — eligibility for credit, employment, housing, or insurance; (3) attempt to re-identify individuals from aggregate data, including FEC aggregates, which are served aggregate-only under 52 U.S.C. § 30111(a)(4); (4) use the data to build individual wealth or vulnerability profiles of private persons; (5) circumvent quotas, keys, or tier fences.

Accuracy and corrections

The API is provided as-is on every tier except Enterprise, where the agreement's SLA governs. Figures are served with provenance; known errors are corrected and recorded in the public Corrections log. Report errors to corrections@atcstw.com.

Keys and revocation

Keys are per-account and non-transferable. ATCSTW may revoke keys for breach of these terms, with notice except where the breach is ongoing abuse. A key appearing in a public repository will be rotated, with notice first where practicable.

Changes

Changes to these terms are published on this page with a date. Continued use after a change takes effect is acceptance. Material changes are announced to account emails before they take effect.
